Saint Benedict’s, often known as “St Ben’s”, is a Church of England church, along with our sister churches, St John’s in the High Street and St Mary’s in Meare. These three “Abbey Parishes” are independently run churches sharing clergy and resources as part of a “benefice”. Although small in number, we at St Ben’s pride ourselves on being warm and friendly, and all are welcome at our services.
Every Thursday from 12 noon we offer a takeaway soup lunch from our west door (under the tower) which is free to everyone. If you’re able and willing to help with this ministry you should let Liz Pearson know by putting your contact details into an envelope addressed to her and popping it through the letter box on the north east door of the church (the one on the corner opposite the Mitre).
Our church is now open for visitors on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 10 am till noon Everyone is welcome to come in for a quiet time. During Covid restrictions we unfortunately can’t offer tea or a chat.
We are in the Inclusive Church network. We therefore affirm that we do not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We welcome and serve all people in the name of Jesus Christ. We believe in Church which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
